Tell us about your company and role.

Developed in 2016, Black Girl Sunscreen is a revolutionary sunscreen brand created by a woman of color for women of color. Our groundbreaking product has not only provided women with darker skin tones with a healthy option to protect their skin, but the brand has cultivated a strong reputation for empowering Black women. At Black Girl Sunscreen, I oversee a team of 18 including product development, customer experience, sales, marketing and digital, and order fulfillment. Black Girl Sunscreen was created out of a need to educate and empower.

 

 

How would you describe yourself?

An optimistic dog mom of three, SPF-loving disrupter who loves to travel and enjoy my time in the sun.

What qualities do you think a successful founder needs to have?

Patience, empathy, determination, discipline, and consistency

What has been your biggest professional success so far?

To change the mindset in the demographic about a product they did not feel was needed or catered to them.

What causes are you most passionate about?

Racial equality, domestic violence, and substance abuse awareness

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing eCommerce brands?

Unauthorized sellers selling product on third-party websites and larger marketplaces.

What's your favorite loyalty program or subscription offering from an eCommerce brand?

I’m a shopper who shops with a large department store that has a fantastic loyalty reward program. And, I love my credit card’s loyalty program as well.

What do you geek out over?

I geek out over free time and cancellations on my calendar.
